25 November 2014 - Franklin, Tenn - Show Hope™, founded in 2003 by multi-award winning Steven Curtis Chapman and his wife Mary Beth, a New York Times' best-selling author, is a nonprofit organization that helps restore the hope of a family to orphans in distress. One of the organization's primary objectives is to mobilize individuals, students, families, and communities to join them in caring for the world's most vulnerable children.
Each year, Show Hope hosts a fundraising banquet to raise funds and awareness of the global orphan crisis. Held in November to promote National Adoption Month, their 11th Annual Fundraising Banquet took place at Nashville's Music City Center on November 8. With hundreds of supporters from around the country in attendance, Show Hope surpassed their goal of $1 million by raising more than $1.2 million to help bring orphans into forever families! The generous donations are a huge step toward Show Hope's annual fundraising goal of $12 million.
The event's success was due in part to hosts Mary Beth and Steven Curtis Chapman (Show Hope's President and Vice President, respectively), guest speakers Max Lucado who shared about the power of prayer, Dr. Karyn Purvis who was recognized for her life-changing work with Show Hope's Empowered to Connect conferences, and Robin and Joyce Hill of the New Hope Foundation who spoke about their work with orphans in China and their partnership with Show Hope. Chapman then closed out the evening with a special musical performance.
SHOW HOPE AND SAM'S PLACE:
In addition to hosting Show Hope's 11th Annual Fundraising Banquet, Steven Curtis Chapman also began his new hosting duties for the revival of the popular concert series "Sam's Place - Music for the Spirit." Held at Nashville's historic Ryman Auditorium, "Sam's Place" invites artists from all music genres to share songs with an uplifting spiritual message along with paying homage to the Ryman's tabernacle roots.
Upon taking on the hosting role, Chapman has planned to designate a portion of each show to speak about the ministry of Show Hope, and even include a few surprises! In fact, during the series' kick-off concert on November 2, one of the most moving moments of the evening was when Chapman surprised two members of the audience, Matthew and Jill Haynes, by presenting them with an Adoption Aid grant from Show Hope. The Haynes family had previously applied for the grant to help bring their son, Dawson, home from South Korea. During the surprise presentation, Chapman share the story of Show Hope with the audience and announced that a portion of every ticket to Sam's Place will be donated to Show Hope.
Artists slated to be part of the Sam's Place series include Amy Grant, NEEDTOBREATHE, Brandon Heath, MercyMe, Ricky Skaggs, Michael W. Smith, Ray Stevens, former American Idol Danny Gokey, Tenth Avenue North and Third Day. Additional artists will be announced throughout the run. The remaining dates for the Sam's Place series are January 11, February 15, March 1, April 5 and May 3. ABOUT SHOW HOPE:
Since its inception, Show Hope has helped provide forever homes through Adoption Aid grants for more than 4,500 orphans from 50+ countries, including the U.S. In addition, more than 1,600 orphans with special needs have received critically needed medical care through Show Hope's Special Care Centers, giving them a hope for a family and a future. Through numerous initiatives designed to engage individuals, students, families, and communities, Show Hope is mobilizing a movement to care for the world's children who need it most.
Through Adoption Aid grants and their four active Special Care Centers, Show Hope addresses barriers to adoption - most notably the high financial burden of adoption and the unmet medical care for orphans with special needs - that prevent orphans from coming home to their forever families.
Show Hope is continuously developing a variety of programs to mobilize the church body to get involved and to help transform the life of an orphan. From their Student Initatives program (which includes the Red Bus Project for college students and The Movement for high schoolers), to their short-term trips for teens and adults, their Advocates program and the monthly sponsorship program, there are so many ways to get involved in the movement to care for orphans.
